Facilities and accessibility
Fully accessible areas of the castle are:
- the grounds
- ground floor facilities including:
- gift shop
- chamber room
- toilets
Due to steep stairs, narrow corridors and uneven surfaces access inside the castle and on the castle tour access is limited.
We are always happy to help our visitors. Please do not hesitate to ask for assistance and information.

Toilets
Our toilets are open to castle visitors and include disabled facilities.
Picnics
We welcome visitors enjoying a picnic on our bailey lawn. We provide a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks in our gift shop.
Tickets for carers
Carers accompanying visitors with accessible or additional needs can visit for free.
To ensure fairness, proof of disability will be required upon arrival. Accepted forms of proof include:
- Carers ID card
- Blue Badge
- Statement of special educational needs from LEA or NHS
- A letter from a medical professional on NHS headed paper
- DLA or PIP letter from the Department of Work & Pensions
- Attendance Allowance
- Incapacity Benefit
- National DID Card
