1741 Destruction

The Medway canalised. Stone from the towers, walls and keep sold by Hooker to build bridges and locks.

1775 New Bridge The Great Bridge rebuilt on old foundations.
1780 Vineyard The castle described as "ancient castle and vineyard"
1782 Destruction Castle continues to be used by Thomas Hooker as a standing quarry.  The remains of the shell keep pulled down out of curiosity..
1791 Mansion built Thomas Hooker, John's son, builds mansion, now accommodating council offices onto Gatehouse
