1314 Last of the De Clares Red Earl's son, Gilbert De Clare, killed at Bannockburn ending De Clare 250 year involvement with castle.
1317 The estate is divided up The estates finally partitioned among the husbands of the last Gilbert's three sisters.  The Honour of Tonbridge went to Hugh D'audley and Margret
Inventory of the castle ordered
Writ by Privy Seal for inspection of muniments, royal charters etc in the Castle
1326 The Staffords Through a sister of the last Earl, the castle came to the Staffords - noble servants of the crown some of whom were buried in Tonbridge Priory.
The castle now in the hands of the Archbishop of Canterbury during the minority of the heir, Edmund.
