Tonbridge Castle offers informative and engaging Educational Tours and Workshops for schools all year round.
The guided tours and workshops immerse students in the turbulent and fascinating history behind this long-standing Gatehouse.
During the Castle Tour, pupils will discover how the stronghold faced bitter sieges, why the Pope excommunicated the Castle's inhabitants, how Thomas Beckett claimed the Keep and how a mighty Earl had to choose between surrendering the Norman Castle or giving up his eldest daughter as hostage.
Students have the exclusive opportunity to travel back in time over 700 years and experience a vivid recreation of the sights, sounds and excitement of the Castle in the 13th Century. Pupils will visit the basement store and the armoury, join the garrison for supper, climb up the battlements and imagine the Castle under attack as History is brought back to life.
Tours are held between 10am and 3pm. The maximum group size on any one day is 60 children, divided into groups of 20.
A guided tour is available for pre-booked groups. Audio tours are available in English, French, German, Dutch or Spanish. All tours last approximately one hour.
